What yoga means to me xx
What yoga does for me
What yoga does for me
Having tried yoga a few times, I never seemed to take to it, until last year when I started Bikram yoga on a 30-day trial.
Bikram is a yoga practised in a room of (105f).The best thing about Bikram for me was that you had to do the same 26 postures every time, which meant you had the chance to practice and master your postures, and build confidence in doing so.
My love for yoga was born, Sometimes doing two classes a day. I then signed up to the 90-day challenge, it closed, I was gutted. Not sure what I would do next, I went to my BFF Google within the hour I found THE LIFE CENTRE NORTH.
Oh my word sometimes things just happen the way they need to, because I found the next step in my practice. Looking back Bikram Yoga was defiantly the starting point on my life as a yogi (the name given to people who practice yoga).
What I found was just one month after starting at the LIFE CENTRE NORTH my core strength has improved, my focus, my awareness of the present moment has strengthened a lot ( although some days are better than others, which you find).I am finding that one day I will go and be like, I will be doing handstands soon, and then others I will be like, jeez girl get it together ( in between telling myself how amazing I am, HA.).
What it does for me…..
Its helped in the process of healing myself
right now yoga isn’t just about how much I can bend. (All though I am getting better) it’s about being in that hot room with all of those other people trying to master themselves and the postures. Being in the vibration of the room and feeling that energy.
Yoga helps me to focus on myself and reminds me to remind myself am worth it helps me want to love every single part of myself, even the parts am not quite happy with.
Yoga has helped me regain my femininity and remember my sexuality, with the teachings of Laura Booth if your reading this thank-you, I think you are amazing!
Helps me stay centred, helps me stay in the NOW
It gives me energy, It gets me to pay attention to myself
I have become more aware of my breath and how much it’s needed, keeps me calm and that everything will always be ok.
It reminds me to pay attention to my thoughts myself talk, to stay positive, drink more water, handle situations better.
It keeps me motivated,
Its made me become aware of how I stand, my posture.
Relaxation and meditation is a big part of yoga and its helped me improve that.
When I stand and look at myself for that 1hr every day, I start having a conversation with myself, I notice I need to paint my toenails or I need to shave my legs, I have become more aware of myself and my self-love.
I have become more comfortable looking at myself every day for 1 hour and appreciate how far I have come physically, mentally and I would even say spiritually.
In that hour I am saying to myself over, Selina you’re looking amazing, Selina I love you girl, Selina am proud of you, go on with your bad self, Selina, guuuuurl you got this
As I am focusing hard on trying to hold warrior pose, then Halfmoon, downward facing dog and on until we finally get to savasana and I breathe, awwwwwwwwww
Yoga has become a life-changing commitment, It been the best present I have given to myself. I would say to anyone thinking of starting, start to find that time to explore you, yourself you deserve it!
Yoga is a journey, it’s a lifestyle choice and change, Am excited at the prospect of a headstand at some point in the foreseeable future.
I am even considering adding 200 hr training in Bali my bucket list to help strengthen my practice. watch this space!
Things to remember
